Missions Update

November 2007

In early October of 2007, members of OUMC had another productive trip to the UMCOR Depot in Baldwin, LA.  This VIM team was very busy preparing kits for the various kinds of relief UMCOR sends worldwide.  It was also a time of building relationships and of spiritual growth during daily devotions. Another VIM trip to Baldwin is in planning for the last week of October 2008.  If you are interested, contact Bob Biache, team leader by e-mail kbiache@centurytel.net or by phone at 581-7005.

Our church supports the Mozambique Initiative of the Missouri Annual Conference.  We are in covenant with a seminary student in Mozambique .  We are providing him with financial support during his four years of seminary as well prayer support.  We correspond with him regularly.  In addition, we have contributed to disaster relief following floods and other disasters in Mozambique .  We have also contributed to the Mozambique Initiative Living Water (water wells) project.

Our church provides considerable support to Rainbow Network, through regular giving by Sunday school classes, United Methodist Men, Youth Group, and individuals.  Rainbow Network ministers to the rural poor in Nicaragua by providing health & nutrition care, education, micro-business loans, and housing.  We sponsor some 12 high school students, as well as contribute to the feeding program for malnourished children.

Our Missions Team sponsors our annual Church Yard Sale. We anticipate scheduling the next one in June 2008.  Proceeds provide much needed funds for the missions work of our church.
